Chocolate Sheet Cake Cookies.....

I think I've found a new favorite cookie! This recipe is based on a chocolate sheet cake....some may call it a Texas sheet cake....to me it's simply a chocolate sheet cake.
The recipe I have for a Texas sheet cake is a white cake with almond flavoring....which I'd just about bet would be great as a cookie, too!
This is one of those recipe videos that floats through social media and I finally got around to giving it a whirl.
Ok....on to the recipe....

Chocolate Sheet Cake Cookies

1/3 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 cup flour

Cream together the butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla.
Gradually add the dry ingredients and mix until combined then stir in the melted chocolate until thoroughly incorporated.

This one is for a cinnamon roll swirl cake.  I've made this cake a couple times now and let me tell you....SO good! And who wouldn't like a cake that you could eat for breakfast?  Because come on....it's a cinnamon roll in cake form!

Yummy Goodness Recipes to Share.....part 1

Wow! I didn't realize it's been a month since I last posted.
It is a dreary rainy day here in my little corner of the world and I have
a sort-of unexpected day off so I  decided to get out the mixer and make up a few goodies and
I thought I'd share the recipes over the next few days.
This first one though I made over Easter weekend for a family gathering.
When making something new for a gathering I end up bringing home half of it because it's different.....not what they know they already like.
This time? No leftovers!
This is basically a pecan pie filling poured and baked over a bunch of bread chunks instead of in a crust!
I normally make my pecan pie using both white and brown sugar and that is what I used when making this but I think next time I make it it will be with white only.
I found the recipe on pinterest and pretty much went by that but I'm going to share how I intend to make it the next go round.
Even if you don't like bread pudding but you like pecan pie....you will love this!

PECAN PIE BREAD PUDDING

8 cups bread cubes (day old french bread would be a good one)
3 eggs
1 cup white syrup
1/2 cup ganulated sugar
1 tsp vanilla
3 Tbsp. melted butter, allow it to cool.
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
3/4  chopped pecans

Prepare a 9"x 9" baking pan by lining the bottom with a square of parchment paper then spray sides with non-stick baking spray.
Cube the bread and set aside in a large mixing bowl.
In another bowl slightly beat the eggs,,,,,add syrup, sugar, vanilla, and stir to combine.
Stir in the melted butter, salt, cinnamon and pecans.
Pour the syrup mixture over the bread cubes and gently stir to coat.
Let it rest for a bit to let the mixture soak in.
Bake in a 350 degree oven for 45 minutes.
Serve warm or room temperature and top with this super easy and tasty caramel sauce!

Caramel Sauce

1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup heavy cream
1 tsp vanilla

Melt butter, brown sugar and cream over medium heat.....bring to a boil and let boil just a couple minutes.....Remove from heat and add  vanilla.
Will keep for a couple weeks in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

My Booth Space at In K-Hoots.....

Good morning, my friends!  I hope you all are off to a fantastic day!
After spending nearly two weeks either in bed, on the sofa or in the recliner I finally started feeling human again!
I don't know about you but when I can't function all I can do is think about all the things that aren't getting done and I just can't wait until I feel better so I can get busy! So this past Monday and Tuesday I had "off" from keeping from grandson and from my Tuesday job at the Mercantile so I done some much needed cleaning and clearing out in my sewing room, gathered finished and collected items and got them tagged and booth ready.
So off to In K-Hoots I went and gave my booth the attention it desperately needed.
I dug out a little sign that I used many moons ago, gave it a little updating and hung it above my space and gave a little homespun touch to the background.
I also decided to merge my Oakley Brooke items with the Cindy's Homespun items.....
yes, they're different but they are all made by ME!
And it just simplifies things.....
Baby blankies, burpies and bibs and baby beanies......
Stenciled flour sack towels and crocheted dishcloth sets.....
Aprons......
Gathering baskets.....just in time for gardening season.....
All in one place....

I've also started making those cute and handy little bowl cozies...I have several sets in the works and plan to have them in the booth next week!
The booth is full....as is the whole store.....
If you find yourself in Moberly, MO stop in and take a peek!

Have a blest day......C.

Snowfall .....part 2

Here are a couple pics out our front window this morning....it is beautiful.  As long as I don't have to be out in it!  I am SO glad that my husband no longer drives over the road....him driving coast to coast the worry was great enough on a sunny summer day....but in conditions like this the worry was so much greater.  I would have to stay off of social media because of all the accident pics people would share.....especially when they involved semi's.

It finally quit snowing sometime last night.
However, they are still calling for more this morning.....and possible drizzle?
Oh my! I may be looking at a couple more days of being in.....good thing I don't mind being at home.  There's always something to do here be it chores, spending time in the sewing room or simply getting to sit down and watch a movie......Today?  Yes, I think I will tackle the Christmas trees.

Many thanks to those who MUST be out...road crews, emergency responders, law enforcement, power crews, health care professionals....and those working in convenience and grocery stores.....and so many more.....
THANK YOU!
Have a blessed day.....C.

Snowfall .....

I can't remember the last time it snowed THIS much.....has to be at least 14" and it is still snowing.
It had been in the forecast....we had been hearing about it for several days to be expected by midday Friday.....and in anticipation early closings were being called on Thursday night.  Good thing because the weatherman called it....they were spot on.
This is out our back door today.....I wasn't going out any further to get anymore pics!

Most area churches have cancelled Sunday services.
I spent today doing a few chores and some baking and have chili going in the crockpot for supper.  Tomorrow I plan on spending another day indoors....maybe I'll get to taking down the Christmas trees and decor.  Maybe.   As for the rest of today, I think I'll go close myself in my sewing room.

Have a blessed day......C.

Apron Finishes.....

Just a few of them.....I think most of these shown have been sold...either ordered or simply sold via my booth at a local shop....and I can tell you more about that in a later post.....
Most of my aprons are of the same style.....it's simply the fabric and sometimes a little embellishment of some sort that change the look ....all of them are fully lined....not so much for making it reversible but for durability.....I make them to be worn....to be used as aprons should be.
Let me know if you'd like one for yourself....or for your little kitchen helper!  My 7 year old granddaughter still loves the ones I've made her!

Thanks for stopping in today......

Have a blessed day.......C.

Back to Ebay.....

I went back to ebay.
It has been SO long since I had listed or bought anything off ebay that I could not get logged in with what info I had so I just had to create a new account....Yea! Cause that's always fun, right!
Since last listing on ebay I have found that they have become much more user friendly.
I discovered while listing my one small item this morning that there is a free listing promotion going on....for up to 50 items!  Now that's some motivation to get sorting through things in the supply closet.  So, hopefully over the next few days I can get a few more things listed.  No telling what you might find in my listings.....things from my supply closet, the pantry, finishes that have been on the shelf too long or things from my closet.
....so check back often!

Hope you are having a fabulous day!

A Recent Project...

Today I'm sharing a project from last fall.
Of all the sewing I've done in the past 30+ years I'd never made a T-shirt quilt.
 Well, here is my first!
Yes, it is a smaller, more of a throw size but it was a good size to start with and a good learning experience.  I understand that there are lots more t-shirts for at least two large quilts.
Could this possibly be a new venture?
We shall see.
I hope you are having a fabulous day!

What I'm Working On.....

..... crocheted baby afghan.  I started this several weeks ago while on a short over-night trip to see our nephew in the hospital.  I've gotten a little further along....I pretty much work on it during the day while Callen is napping or playing or while I watch television of an evening. Needless to say, it's not getting done too quickly!
I learned how to crochet many moons ago learning simple dishcloths and hotpads to doilies and larger afghans.  That eventually got set aside as I got  involved in sew many other things.
Over the past few years I REALLY wanted to pick it up again and I did but couldn't get past dishcloths. Each time I would get that itch and walk through the yarn aisles at the store I would get completely overwhelmed with the selection.....what will I make and how much yarn will I need?
So finally,  I done some (free) pattern searching for simple yet needful things and began to crochet again.  I am still crocheting dishloths, for my own use as well as selling (watch for them in my etsy shoppe soon).  I've made hats, scarves and cowls of which I've donated and gifted.  But I really enjoy making the baby afghans that I will place in my gift closet until one is needed.
So.....that is one thing I'm working on....what is in your work basket?

Enjoy your day!

Hello Again World.....

I don't know why I can't keep up with blogging.  However, it's just been since last fall....not like a year or two break as I have done before.
I wonder sometimes with having facebook and instagram if there is really a need for me to blog and I think about shutting the whole thing down then something draws me back.  Not everyone on my facebook wants to hear or read about everything that is going on in my little corner of the world but for those who are interested can simply be directed here.

We've had alot go on in the past several months.  And this little man right here is the greatest blessing!
Meet Callen Oakley born on December 27th.  He adores his big sister, Rylee Brooke and she adores him!
And I get the honor of taking care of him just as I did Rylee.
LOTS of great adventures are in my future!
Well, if you are here and reading, thanks for stopping in!

Hope your day is fabulous!

Baby Quilt Finish

A few weeks ago I shared the beginnings of a baby quilt....well, between ripping up carpet and repainting the living room, I've managed to get this cute little number hand quilted and the binding sewn on.  While I am pleased with the outcome, I do need to work on the evenness of my quilting stitches.

Practice makes perfect so now on to the next one....this one is all sandwiched together and ready to quilt.

Chocolate Fudge Brownie Cake

I found this recipe on pinterest some time back and I've made it a couple of times now.  This time I changed it up a bit...just in the frosting part...I've included the pinterest link below the recipe.

CHOCOLATE FUDGE BROWNIE CAKE

1 box chocolate cake mix
1 box fudge brownie mix (9"x13" size mix)
4 eggs
1 1/4 cups water
1 cup oil

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Prepare a bundt pan by spraying with a non-stick cooking spray...I like *Baker's Joy.
Combine all ingredients in mixer bowl and mix well to combine thoroughly.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake 50-55 minutes.
Allow to cool for a bit before turning out of pan.

Melt 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate plus 4 tablespoons whipping cream, stir to smooth consistency.
Pour over cake.  As you can see, I topped with a handful of chopped pecans.
Enjoy!

Taco Soup.....

I know.  Who eats soup in the middle of a Missouri summer?
I do.
The older I get the more  my taste buds change.  Over the past several years I've come to like a number of foods.  Peas are still not a favorite and I probably will never like mixed vegetables or vegetable soup.  For years, I've heard people talk about taco soup and one day I decided to gather recipes.  The first time I made it I used the ground beef as the recipe called.  After making it a couple times and making a few changes to a combination of recipes, I think I have arrived at a recipe that I can kinda claim as my own......
TACO SOUP
2 boneless skinless chicken breast, cooked and shredded/chopped
2 cans black beans (do not drain)
1 can corn, drained
1 large onion, chopped
1 can ro-tel tomatoes with green chilies
1 pkg taco seasoning mix
1 pkg ranch dressing mix
1-1/2 cups broth from the chicken

Combine all ingredients in the crock pot....you see that I have mine lined with a *Reynolds Slow Cooker liner. (These can be found at Wal-Mart with the wax paper, saran, etc...)
Let cook on low 4-6 hours.....or all day....
Precook your chicken as you prepare supper, just remember to reserve a bit of your chicken broth.....chop your onion.....toss it all in the crock pot the next morning....let it cook all day and supper is ready when you get home!
A few things on the side.....shredded cheese, sour cream!
ENJOY!

Something New.....

Remember these?  The fat quarter bundle that I just couldn't resist buying while waiting for interfacing to be cut.  And as it turned out, once I got started with a plan, I had to go back and buy another bundle to have enough...
I pressed them all out and cut them into 3 1/2" strips and sewed them together....
Then cut those sections into 3 1/2" strips......
Sewed them into strips to form blocks....
......then stitching blocks together and adding more strips as I went to make the finished size top that I decided I wanted to go with.....
So here we have the quilt sandwich ready to be quilted.
I don't know whether I will hand quilt it, machine quilt it myself or send it out to be machine quilted by someone with alot more experience than me!
I will post more photo's once it's complete.
